I grew up on a farm near Florence, SD, and graduated from SDSU in Brookings, SD with an English major and a Spanish minor. I have taught both English and Spanish since I graduated in 1974. I did learn lots of Spanish while I studied for 6 weeks in Spain the summer of 1972. I have taught in Bancroft, NE, Sheffield, IA, Garner, IA and here at Glidden for most of my teaching career. I love teaching students a new language. Knowing a foreign language is so important in our ever shrinking world. Students get exposure to more and more Spanish every day and if they can communicate in their field, they are an additional asset to their employer. I am a sponsor of Spanish Club and have taken students on trips to either Mexico or Costa Rica since 1995. We go every other year. Exposing students to the outside world and making them appreciate other cultures as well as their own is a goal of mine. I live in Carroll, IA, and have 3 sons, 5 granddaughters, and 1 grandson. Family is very important to me, but so is the G-R family. I try to incorporate both families in my life. I also work part-time at New Hope, training others to work with people with disabilities. I would have to say teaching is in my blood. In my spare time I enjoy reading and spending time with my family.
